About May Kesler, MA, MS, MTh, PT
May Kesler, MA,MS,MTh,PT, was the founder of the Center for
Physical&Massage Therapy, and now Kesler Physical Massage & Movement Therapy.
May graduated from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Physical Therapy in 1982, and has 29 years of
experience as a physical therapist, as well as being a licensed massage therapist. She specializes in the integration of manual therapies such as myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, mobilization, trigger point release, somatoemotional release, lymphatic drainage, visceral manipulation. She adds her 5 0+ years of experience as a dancer and her studies in Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Technique, yoga, and Pilates to her work in exercise and movement reeducation.
Most recently, she has become the only Physical Therapist
in the USA to become a Certified Zena Rommett Floor-Barre
Teacher, taught by master dance teacher Ms. Rommett, 89, herself.
May is adapting Floor-Barre for those recovering from injuries and musculoskeletal dysfunction. This will bring the Floor-Barre Technique from the elite dancer’s world to help those who need gentle but simply effective strengthening most.
May's work is infused with compassion and sensitivity that was forged
when her mother, a pediatrician and May's role model, died of breast
cancer when May was a teenager. Her devotion to dance, formally started
in childhood with Helena Baron School of Ballet, joined with experiences
of healing with her mother brought May to focus her work on the union of
body, mind, spirit, and motion in healing.
Treatment consists of the expertise and skill in her manual
therapy techniques. She teaches patients specific effective exercises,
including posture and movement reeducation techniques, and ergonomic evaluations. She is available for evaluation and treatment on an individual basis, lectures, and classes in Floor-Barre.
